Environmental Sustainability

The Environmental Sustainability Thematic Partnership concentrated its focus on the following areas - climate change, waste, housing and highways - in addition to environmental objectives contained within the Sustainable Community Strategy.  The role of the Thematic Partnership was to ensure delivery of these longer term objectives through robust action plans and delivery mechanisms.  In addition, it supported the work of the Area Partnership Boards in tackling local environmental issues and, in turn, received APB support in locally delivering the aspirations of the Thematic Partnership.

At its meeting on 23rd November 2010, the future of the Environmental Sustainability Thematic Partnership was discussed, in light of the changing context for partnership working - including less prescription from central government, less funding, more transparency and a shift from 'top down' to 'community driven' delivery.  Alongside this is also activity at the sub-national level through the emerging Local Enterprise Partnerships.

It was therefore agreed that the Group, in its current form, was not fit for this new context and would not continue to 'add value'.  However, it was recognised that smaller 'task and finish' groups could be set up to address any outstanding environmentally focused issues from the Sustainable Community Strategy.
