Residents from the Westminster area of Ellesmere Port took part in special events on 27th February to find out how they can have a say in what happens in their local community.
They met members of Cheshire West and Chester Council’s Neighbourhood Environmental Action Team, Ellesmere Port’s Area Management Team and the Healthy Living Centre provided a hot lunch which was served by young people from Westminster Youth Club who interviewed older people about what life was like in Westminster when they were young.
Police and Fire and Rescue officers went house-to-house distributing Smartwater kits and carried out home safety checks and Animal Welfare Officers went around the area with residents to identify places where there are problems with dog waste and put up signs reminding people of the fines that can be imposed for not clearing up after your pet.
Trading Standards officers also joined Western Cheshire Credit Union advising people on the dangers of borrowing money through loan sharks and how they can help people to set up savings schemes.
"The day contained lots of different information and was very successful," said Central and Westminster Councillor, Cllr Justin Madders, who went along to the event.
"We hope that it proved very informative for local people and that this will see the start of a sustained focus on investment and improvement in the quality of life for those who live in the Westminster area."
