Northwich East, Shakerley and Marbury Community Forum
Media Release (14th January 2010)
Northwich Residents Brave Atrocious Weather to Attend Forum Meeting on Cheshire’s Waste Private Finance Initiative
Around 60 local residents and Town and Parish Council representatives braved atrocious weather to attend the Northwich East, Shakerley and Marbury Community Forum at the Memorial Hall on 6th January.
The meeting focused on a single agenda item concerning the proposed new Cheshire waste treatment Private Finance Initiative (PFI) contract worth £850 million.
Local Councillors and members of the public received presentations from council officers on the need for the PFI contact; the procurement process; brief details of the two remaining bidders proposals, Viridor and Resource Recovery Solutions; and the future timetable.
The process for determining the two planning applications for waste treatment facilities in Northwich from the two bidders was explained, together with an outline of other waste management proposals in Cheshire.
A number of important and challenging questions about the bids were raised at the Forum during a lively discussion between local councillors, council officers and local communities.
The Council welcomes comments and questions from local residents on the proposals before the planning applications are determined. Where possible these should be backed up by evidence.
Said Councillor Mark Stocks, Chairman of the Northwich Community Forum, “I want to thank everyone for taking the time to attend the meeting, especially with the awful weather conditions, and in doing so making the forum meeting such and informative event.
“I would like to reassure all residents that their comments will be taken into account in all our future deliberations.
“Anyone wishing to make comments or representations should continue to do so.”
