Winsford’s first Christmas Street Festival took place on 26th November on the Old High Street. This was a partnership event with Winsford Town Council, Cheshire Police, MAR (Winsford Town Centre Management Company), local businesses and Cheshire West and Chester Council.
Even though it was one of the first cold spells of the 2010 winter, over 1500 residents attended the event. The High Street businesses either opened early or stayed open later to supply those in attendance with hot food and drinks during the entertainment which included a puppeteer, stilt walker and fire eater, as well as live drama sketches, local acoustic artists and bands performing on stage.
The evening began with a procession involving characters from the local pantomimes, led by Winsford Town Mayor (and Father Christmas) Cllr Malcolm Gaskill who switched on the Christmas lights. St Luke’s Hospice supplied “Santa’s Grotto” and the evening culminated with a firework display.
